Ten Commandments for Responsible Owners |
|
1. My life is likely to last about 10 years. Any separation from you will be very painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well being. 4. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment. I have only you!
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice and when it's speaking to me. 6. Be aware that however you treat me, I'll never forget it. 7. Before you hit me, remember that I have teeth that could crush the bones in your hand, but I choose not to bite you. 8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I've been in the sun too long, or my heart may be getting old and weak. 9. Take care of me when I get old. You, too, will grow old. 10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say, "I can't bear to watch it" or "Let it happen in my absence". Everything is easier for me if you are there. Remember, I love you. Author Unknown |
We usually keep our puppies for at least 8 weeks after which time they become available to go to their new homes. Our puppies are raised inside our home with love from every single member of our family. Puppies are supplemented with our special homemade formula 1-2 feedings per day on top of what they get from their mom. They are wormed at 3, 4 and 6 weeks of age and they get their first round of vaccines at 6 weeks at which time we let visitors come and handle them. We usually do not allow anyone hold them until they are fully vaccinated. We do, however, post plenty of pictures for everyone to see.
We are very picky when it comes down to finding a right family for our puppies. Our puppies are our babies and we want to make sure their future family will love and care for them as much as we do. We prefer previous experience with the breed or at least experience with a large/giant breed. These guys require a lot of attention and love. You have to be able to put in the time and socialize this particular breed. We socialize them for the entire time we have them and then it is up to you. I have read somewhere that a Bullmastiff puppy must meet around 100 people by the time he/she is around 6 months old. These guys are very intelligent and if you dont spend the time to teach them obedience, you will have a giant dog, who will do things as he/she pleases. You will never be able to outstrengthen a Bullmastiff, therefore, you need to be able to control him/her with commands that he/she should learn from the very beginning.
One of the questions we get asked if a Bullmastiff can stay in an apartment and the answer is absolutely yes as long as your apartment allows large/giant breed. We recommend that you crate train your Bullmastiff. You will definitely be happier when there is no damage to your furniture, shoes and etc. It will also be nice not to have accidents in the house. We still crate all of our dogs at night and when we are gone. Most of my dogs are okay with cats (and we have 5 of them), however, we dont recommend leaving them unattended with cats or small breed dogs. Tanky thinks that all the kitty cats are furry toys and wants to grab them with his teeth and carry them around. As you can imagine our kitty cats dont think it is such a good idea.
As far as the exercise is concerned - we dont recommend a lot of strenuous exercise up until 1-1.5 years of age. You can take them for a nice walk, not too long though and definitely no rough play. Handle them very carefully, protect their bones and joints. Dont let them get on the couch or chairs as they can jump down and hurt themselves. Dont let your young children pick them up as they can accidentally drop them and hurt them.
As far as the food is concerned - we try to feed lower protein food, which is good for their joints and bones. I recently switched to Canidae All Life Stages formula. It is only 24% protein and a very hollistic food. It has 4 different meat meals in it and absolutely no fillers or byproducts. It is rated 5/6 on http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/. They seem to absolutely love it and cant get enough of it.
Our puppies come with a 1 full year health guarantee. We have a contract for you to sign at the time of purchase. Pet puppies are available with limited AKC registration which means that these puppies cant be bred or shown. We prefer that the pet puppies are spayed or neutered at or around 6 months or whatever your vet prefers. If you are interested in a show quality pup, please let us know.
If at any point your life situation changes and you cant have your dog anymore, please let us know. We will either take him/her back or help you find a family that will adopt him/her. I usually keep in contact with all my puppy owners and make sure that my babies are doing well.
We prefer to meet our future puppy owners, however, we understand that not everyone can come here to pick up a pup. We have shipped in the past and we will make arrangements if we need to.
As always, please dont hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
